Sustainable holidays Travel & holiday in an eco-conscious way

Surrounded by glacier, mountains and lake, Zell am See-Kaprun is a natural paradise. To ensure that this remains the case in the future, and that future generations can enjoy nature and the landscape in the region in summer and winter, numerous measures are taken in the area of sustainability.

Zell am See-Kaprun as "Best Tourism Village by UNWTO"

As part of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) initiative, 32 selected tourism destinations, with a strong focus on sustainability, from around the world were awarded the "Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO" sustainability label. Among applicants from over 57 countries, our region is one of the those who received this award. The evaluation of municipalities with a maximum of 15,000 inhabitants was carried out by an international jury of experts in the areas of cultural and natural resources, sustainability, regional value creation, infrastructure as well as health and safety.

State Secretary Susanne Kraus-Winkler:

"I am very pleased that Zell am See has been awarded "Best Tourism Village" by the UNWTO. Being highly committed to sustainability, the destination acts as a role model for other regions, and demonstrates how sustainable tourism can be implemented successfully."

Mobility: Your green journey

These measures also include the area of mobility. Did you know that around 80 percent of CO2 emissions during a holiday are caused by the journey to and from the destination? In order to reduce these CO2 emissions, Zell am See-Kaprun offers numerous services for sustainable travel by train. You can also give your car a break at the destination: Thanks to the Pinzgau Mobility Card, you can travel free of charge on all public transport throughout the summer. In winter, the ski busses in the region take you quickly and easily to the lower termini of the ski areas Schmittenhöhe, Kitzsteinhorn Glacier or to the neighbouring Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. The free of charge use is included in the Ski ALPIN CARD.
